Weapon H is one of Marvel Comics' most viscerally compelling modern creations, debuting in 2018 as the product of the Weapon X program's most catastrophically ambitious experiment, a living hybrid of Hulk and Wolverine fused into a single unstoppable entity whose existence raised every possible question about the ethics of power, the commodification of extraordinary human beings, and the point at which a weapon develops the will to refuse its creators. Created by Greg Pak and Greg Land, Clayton Cortez became one of Marvel's most fascinating new characters precisely because his story was never simply about the spectacle of combined abilities but about the far more human and far more painful question of what a person owes themselves when the most powerful institutions in the world have decided they are nothing more than raw material. The Weapon X program, which had previously given the world Wolverine through the agonizing process of lacing his skeleton with indestructible adamantium, represented in Weapon H its most morally depraved iteration, a program that no longer needed to find extraordinary subjects because it had learned to manufacture them by harvesting the genetic signatures of people whose power was never theirs to take.
